Jay and Ann have been married 53 years. Ann and Jay raised two great children who are now married, live in Texas and each have two children. Throughout their marriage Ann and Jay have been active in the life of our local church and served in many leadership roles. Jay has been a Sunday school teacher, youth counselor, member of church councils and member of mission teams to Mexico, Tennessee and in the local community.
As an Army logistics officer, Jay served as an operations officer, unit commander and later as a senior staff officer, planning logistics operations. He and his family were stationed in Italy, Hawaii, Germany, Belgium and several bases in the continental United States. He also served combat tours in the Dominican Republic, and Viet Nam.
Jay was introduced to Logos in May 2017 and was asked to be a member of the Board of Directors and the treasurer. Jay feels very strongly that whenever you extend a helping hand (particularly to children,) every person involved and God’s kingdom benefit. Further, Jay believes that spreading the love and knowledge of Christ to children early in their lives lays the foundation for their growth into righteous Christians. His vision for Logos One By One is to expand it as funding permits to serve all of the people of southwestern Uganda and ultimately to have positive influence on the country as a whole.
Since 1981, Gail has lived in Searcy, as a wife and mother for 30 years. She has two wonderful children and now has two amazing grandchildren. As a young girl, Gail had a serious aversion to “old people”, nursing homes, and hospitals and did her best to avoid them. However, God had other plans for her! He completely changed her heart and gave her great love, joy, and compassion for working with the elderly ! She earned both B.A. and M.S. degrees in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Arkansas and University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Gail does not doubt that she was led by the Holy Spirit to spend a 40 year professional career in hospitals and nursing homes providing speech therapy services for senior citizens! She was also active in her community, including founding the Searcy Girls Youth Soccer League, being the first female to coach and serve as Commissioner of the girls league. Gail is a past president and Board Member of Searcy Junior Auxiliary, as well as the Searcy Country Club Board of Directors. Gail learned about Logos, One By One through its founder, Eva Rose. She was greatly influenced by the scripture: Whatever you did for the least of my brothers and sisters, you did also for me. Mathew 25:40. God touched Gail’s heart to embrace this ministry in Uganda! It is a privilege like no other to help spread the good news of Jesus Christ and Gail is humbled and grateful to be a part of this ministry!
Ann has many roles include being a wife, a mother, grandmother and a Registered Nurse. Besides raising two children, being an Army wife, Ann spent over 17 years doing Medical-Surgical nursing. She has been married to Lyman Walker (Jay) for 53 years.
Ann heard about LOGOS, One by One after a presentation by Eva Rose in May 2017. Her heart was touched seeing the pictures of the Ugandan children and hearing how Alexander, the Ugandan teacher, travels to remote villages, gathers small groups of children and teaches them Bible lessons. The Lord spoke to her heart leading me to join others that support LOGOS, One by One, a vital and growing ministry caring about God’s children in Uganda. She believes that the ministry diligently and prayerfully seeks ways to grow even more for the glory of God. That would mean more teachers so that more children can be reached with the Gospel. In order for this to happen there are urgent funding needs to include a reliable vehicle. She serves on the Board of Directors and is actively involved working with others to spread the word about this ministry and to help with fund raising for ministry needs.
James is a retired husband, father of three daughters, and grandfather to ten grandchildren. James' life started in Dayton, Ohio where he remained until he left to attend college in Nashville, Tennessee. After graduation James moved to Memphis, Tennessee to start his working career as a special education teacher and to start his life as a husband to his wonderful wife of 50 years, Eva. James teaching career lasted for seven years: two in Memphis and five in Eva’s hometown of Wilmington, Delaware. The rest of his working life was spent in the hospitality/food service business that included a few years back in Tennessee before retiring to our present home in Searcy, Arkansas. Eva and James are blessed to have three daughters and three son-in-laws and 10 grandchildren.
After one of their daughters and her husband traveled to Uganda to become missionaries, James and Eva traveled there to visit them several times, seeing firsthand the multitude of needs of children in that country. With much prayerful consideration, Eva took the lead in creating Logos as a way to help meet the spiritual, educational and physical needs of as many Ugandan children as possible. James joins with Eva and Logos in their efforts to serve God by serving the needs of Ugandan children.
As one of the original Board members in Searcy, Obera has had the pleasure of serving Logos, One by One and their African mission to Uganda since 2014.
Obera is a native of Searcy, Arkansas and has lived in this area all my life. Obera is married to Harry Norman, and together, they are blessed to share six children and six grandchildren. Her long term career has been with Pathfinder, Inc., a company that specializes in the care of people with disabilities. Obera has a passion for those who struggle with physical and mental challenges, and it has been her privilege to love and care for each one of my clients. Obera's compassion extends to other continents as well, and for this reason, sje was happy to join in the effort to help the underserved children of Uganda.By nature, Obera is a prayer warrior, and daily, she fervently prays for the mission and its growth. She was attracted to the passion of our founder, Eva Rose, and she believes the focus on the ministry is in line with our purpose on earth as Christians. The emphasis on teaching and knowing the Word of God foremost is a core belief in Obera's personal life as well. As far as the future of the ministry, Obera's prayers are for their African Director, Alexander, to serve more children with his wife, and for their ministry to be able to add more teachers and provide a means of dependable transportation for the teachers going to the villages. They believe all of this can happen with God’s provision and with our obedience to His call to glorify Him.
Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals and expand our ministry. Thank you for partnering with LOGOS One by One.
